Summer In Morzine

Morzine in the French Alps is part of the largest ski area in the world, the Portes du Soleil. But once the snow has melted, summer in Morzine unlocks the potential for a whole host of experiences. In this post, we’ll go into why summer in Morzine will be the next addition to your bucket list.

What's Summer In Morzine Like?

Most people who moved to Morzine did so because of the excellent ski area. But, chat with pretty much any ex-pat, and they’ll tell you that even though they love winter, they stay for the summer.

The atmosphere is much more laid-back. We spend most of the time in shorts and T-shirts and enjoy the incredible activities on offer.

Things To Do During The Summer In Morzine

In this post, we’ll highlight the most popular summer activities, but if you decide to visit, we recommend heading to the Morzine Tourist Office. They have all the latest information on activities and events to keep you and your family entertained throughout your stay.

Hiking And Walking

Summer In Morzine - Hikers

We recommend bringing a decent pair of hiking boots on your summer trip to Morzine. Over 200km of marked routes range from super easy to technical hikes featuring ladders and chains.

Local walks take you along rivers and waterfalls and are great for spotting wildlife. You can also make life easier by using the ski lift system to cover ground much more quickly and see the views from the higher peaks.

Mountain Biking

Summer In Morzine - mountain biking with a dog

Morzine and its surrounding areas create a heaven for mountain bikers. The Portes du Soleil is one of the world’s largest mountain bike areas, featuring hundreds of trails.

The trails are graded in terms of difficulty like ski runs:

Green- beginner

Blue – beginner to intermediate

Red – Intermediate

Black – Expert

No matter your level, we recommend starting with a green run to get a feel for what to expect. The best green runs for beginners and families are on the Super Morzine side of the valley. It’s possible to book a mountain bike instructor or guide to take you to the best places.

You can hire mountain bikes from several shops in Morzine. The bikes available are high-end and suitable for the local terrain. These fancy mountain bikes are costly to hire, but they are the best tools for the job. Check out Torico Performance Cycles

Road Cycling

Road cycling is huge during summer in Morzine. We have some challenging cols with epic views, and many have been part of the Tour de France. You can hire road bikes from most bike shops in Morzine, and there are organised rides. Check out Buzz Performance for guided bike tours and regular club rides.

Fun On The Lake

Summer In Morzine - paddleboarding on lake montriond

Lac de Montriond is just down the road from Morzine. You can get there by car, bike, or bus to enjoy this stunning stretch of water. The clear lake is surrounded by cliffs, sheltering it from the wind, making it a great place to sunbathe, paddleboard, swim, and kayak.

Paddleboards and kayaks are available to rent at the lake, but you can bring your own if you have them. You’ll find a few restaurants on the lake’s banks so that you can have a picturesque lunch. Alternatively, claim one of the free-to-use barbeques early and cook your own lunch or dinner.

Morzine Swimming Pool

Morzine has a fantastic swimming pool next to the Palais du Sports and ice rink. It’s one of the best places to spend a day during summer in Morzine. You can enjoy swimming indoors or outdoors, splashing in the play area, or slipping down the slides. There’s even a beach volleyball court and a picnic area to entertain everyone all day.

Rafting And Canyoning

Morzine is an excellent place for adrenaline-fueled adventure. A few companies offer guided whitewater rafting sessions on the river Dranse. A great example is Frogs Rafting. Their skilled guides pick you up and drive you to the river after kitting you out in wetsuits and giving you a safety briefing. They make your trip down the river one to remember, stopping off for optional cliff jumps and water fights.

Frogs also provide canyoning excursions. This is when you make your way down the river, jumping off waterfalls and abseiling down cliffs. It’s not for the faint-hearted but great for adrenaline junkies.

Paragliding
